Center for Computer Resources: Making the Most of the EMR Opportunity

Based in Troy, Michigan, the Center for Computer Resources ("CCR") has been serving businesses in the metropolitan Detroit-area for almost 30 years. Over time, President and CEO Curt Hicks has built a steady business with a solid reputation. As a specialist working with the owners of small and medium-sized companies to install and maintain the technology platforms and software applications used to run their business, he is a trusted resource. CCR’s competencies include all facets of technology assessment and implementation ranging from hardware and software installation to network design and security services.

Challenging Times Call for a New Focus
While CCR had grown a robust client roster, it struggled to meaningfully grow its revenue base and take its business to the next level. When the economic situation in Michigan worsened, that challenge became a problem. “We were able to maintain a good base, but we struggled to find a product or service focus that would allow us to truly expand,” says Curt. “The traditional break-fix model was nearly impossible to plan for and when the credit crunch hit there was a noticeable shift in the market and among our clients - suddenly IT took a back seat to other priorities. We needed to shift our strategy to maintain and grow the business we’d developed.”

gloStream Gives CCR a Boost
Curt was introduced to the team at gloStream and shortly thereafter signed on as a gloStream Certified Partner selling gloStream EMR software to doctor’s throughout Southeastern Michigan.

In less than 12 months, the team at CCR sold and implemented gloStrem electronic medical records  in six different practices, all of which required new network servers, workstations, peripherals, and - most important to CCR’s long-term strategy - managed services. In fact, a single EMR installation represented almost $400,000 in products, services and software and $5,200 monthly in managed services. CCR reports that EMR software sales already represent more than 15 percent of their total revenue and forecast it will be more than 20 percent very soon.

“In a very short period of time, gloStream's EMR software has helped transform our business,” says Curt. “Here we are, in a down economy, and CCR is experiencing tremendous growth. I’ve even hired a salesperson who is dedicated to selling gloEMR - it’s just that good of an opportunity.”

With governmental bodies, trade associations and legislators all calling out for widespread healthcare IT adoption, all signs point toward continued excitement for EMR software and even greater opportunities for CCR and other gloStream Certified Partners throughout the country.

“The gloStream partnership has been lucrative but it’s also been a great experience,” says Curt. “gloStream is a 100 percent partner driven company and truly cares about my business. From training to marketing support, they have given me everything I need to be successful.”
